July of 2022 marks 51 years of the Centro Cultural in Balboa Park. Would you like to help us celebrate this 51 years by sharing the Centro with the San Diego public as a volunteer/arts and culture ambassador? We are looking for student, adult, artist volunteers for three hour shifts to participate in an art installation in Balboa Park on July 15, 16, and 17.
Accompany one of four temporary site specific mobile sculptures that will be installed in high traffic sites in the center of Balboa park. The sculptures, which are 8 ft wooden pyramid sculptures on wheels with painted walls, the “Toltec Totems” bring the Centro experience of Chicano, Indigenous and Multicultural artistic expression through bright colorful painted images, storytelling,music, dance and poetry. This project is sponsored by the San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, and was an artistic collaboration between The community Artivist/muralist/educators Mario Torero and Sarah Bella Mondragon and Centro and Community artists. contact volunteer@toltectotems.com or call Sarah or Mario at 858-261-4005 to sign up to volunteer.
